The best mods for The Witcher 3 Remastered

A week after launch, The Witcher 3 Remastered already has a thriving mod scene. More than 450 mods have been released or updated for this version since 29 September, and for the first time some of them are reaching PS5 and Xbox Series too, through mod.io. If you’re heading back to the Continent, the sheer choice can feel overwhelming. This guide pulls together a selection of well-documented mods, what each one does and where to find it, with every figure and description traced back to the mod pages and the outlets that have catalogued them.

At a glance

More than 450 mods already support The Witcher 3 Remastered, according to PC Gamer.

On PS5 and Xbox Series, mods install from inside the game through mod.io, from a smaller selection than on PC.

Brothers In Arms, the huge community bug-fix mod, has been updated for this version.

How mods work in Witcher 3 Remastered

On PC, little has changed: mods live on Nexus Mods or the Steam Workshop, and the community has moved fast. According to PC Gamer’s count of compatible mods, more than 450 have been created or updated for The Witcher 3 Remastered since it launched on 29 September.

Consoles are where things get interesting. CD Projekt Red has built mod.io into the game on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series: mods are made on PC, shared to mod.io, then downloaded straight from the in-game menu on console. Push Square counted more than 40 mods available on PS5 at launch, and French site Gameblog now lists around a hundred on consoles.

Brothers In Arms, the fix to install first

If you only install one mod, make it this one. Brothers In Arms, available for free on Nexus Mods in its Ultimate Edition, has been updated to run on The Witcher 3 Remastered, as DSOGaming reports in its write-up of the mod. The site credits it with fixing around 5,750 bugs.

It tackles quests, characters, cutscenes and objects that float or sink into the ground. It also restores content that sits in the game files but was never used, including 145 books and documents, more than 120 characters and over 800 lines of dialogue, according to DSOGaming. For a fresh playthrough, it’s the kind of mod you install once and forget about.

Fast travel and animations for a smoother ride

In its pick of fifteen mods that work with Witcher 3 Remastered, Gameblog highlights several quality-of-life favourites that have been around for years and have made the jump to Witcher 3 Remastered. Fast Travel From Anywhere, by JupiterTheGod on Nexus Mods, lets you open the map and travel to a signpost without walking to one first. Be careful with it, though: avoid teleporting in the middle of a quest so you don’t risk breaking a script.

Complete Animations Redux adds animations to Geralt’s everyday actions, such as drinking, eating or applying oil to his blade, with a menu to adjust their speed and use them while walking. Gameblog also mentions Enhanced Camera, which adjusts the camera position, Sort Everything, for tidier inventory sorting, and AutoLoot Advanced Settings, which makes automatic looting configurable.

Witcher 3 Remastered mods you can get on console

On PS5 and Xbox Series, the list is shorter but already handy. Gameblog names three mods available on both PC and consoles: Hoods, which adds hoods you can buy from merchants, More Money For Traders, which gives shopkeepers deeper pockets so selling your loot is easier, and Auto Win Gwent, which wins card games for you. That last one will divide opinion, though it’ll be a relief for anyone who never got on with Gwent.

Before you install: saves and patches

Witcher 3 Remastered is still changing. On 1 October, CD Projekt Red released hotfix 5.00c on Steam, which among other things fixes a bug that stopped saves loading or saving when the path to the Documents folder caused problems. Any patch can break a mod that hasn’t been updated yet. Before installing anything, copy your saves to another folder.

On PC, The Witcher 3 Mod Manager, available on Nexus Mods and also on Gameblog’s list, makes installation and load order easier once mods start piling up. And if you want to try a mod safely, test it on a spare save before touching the playthrough you actually care about.
