Look Outside, Devolver’s horror RPG, hits PS5 and Switch

Look Outside, Francis Coulombe’s pixel art horror RPG, came out on PS5, PS4, Switch 2 and Switch on 30 October. Published by Devolver Digital, the game had been PC-only since 21 March 2025. Its hook is simple: a strange event turns anyone who looks out of the window into a monster, and you have to survive shut inside your apartment block. On Steam, its user reviews sit at Overwhelmingly Positive. Xbox owners are left out of this console launch, and the Steam version is in English only.

At a glance

Look Outside launched on PS5, PS4, Switch 2 and Switch on 30 October, with no Xbox version, nineteen months after its PC release.

On Steam, the game costs £8.99, and 98% of its 10,064 English-language reviews were positive as of 31 October.

The Steam page promises over 150 creatures, a dozen bosses and 10 to 12 hours of play, in English only.

Look Outside keeps you shut inside your own building

Look Outside plays out entirely within the walls of a single apartment block, while the world outside descends into chaos. You plan trips into the corridors to find food, supplies and weapons, then head back home to recover. Between outings, the Steam page lists what your flat has to offer: playing games, cooking dinner, crafting tools and getting to know neighbours who have become allies.

Combat is turn-based and takes into account the space between you and your enemies, with makeshift weapons picked up around the building. The game promises over 150 hand-crafted creatures, a dozen boss fights and several endings, across 10 to 12 hours. Some of the characters you meet can be recruited and given shelter in your flat, while others can only drop by as visitors.

Body horror sits at the heart of it, with neighbours twisted into grotesque creatures. Alexis at ActuGaming described its body horror as top-notch and lifted by careful pixel art when the console release was announced. Look Outside bills itself as small, experimental and unwaveringly weird, with a cast of characters its Steam page calls occasionally psychotic.

From a 2024 game jam to Devolver’s line-up

Look Outside started life as an entry in the Hawktober Horrors game jam in 2024, according to playnews. Devolver Digital then released it on Steam on 21 March 2025, the same day it was announced, as Gematsu reported. Less than three months later, the game had already drawn 75,000 players, according to a letter to fans posted on its Steam page on 13 June 2025.

Player opinion has held steady since then. As of 31 October, 97% of the 467 English-language reviews from the last 30 days are positive, close to the 98% figure across every review written in English.

The free updates PC players have had since 2025

On 28 October 2025, Look Outside’s 2.0 update, Final Vision, went out free to everyone who owned the game. It added new endings, new monsters, new quests and a challenge mode called Cursed. Patch 2.01 followed in November with fixes, balance tweaks and reworked fights, including the battles against the mutant astronomers on the roof and the final showdown with the masked shadow.

The most recent major patch, 2.3 on 15 April 2026, redesigned the fight against Mutt and reworked the one against Honko. In the notes, the developer thanks the contributors to the Look Outside wiki on Miraheze, whose list of known bugs made the fixes much easier to track. According to playnews, Devolver’s announcement on X simply lists the four consoles and the 30 October date, without saying which version of the game is heading to PS5 and Switch.

What to check before buying Look Outside on console

Xbox owners don’t have a version of the game for now: ActuGaming pointed it out when the console release was announced on 23 October, and Alex Fuller’s RPGamer piece on the console release also lists only PS4, PS5, Switch and Switch 2.

On Steam, Look Outside is available in English only. We found no mention of other languages for the console versions, so it’s worth checking the listing on your store before buying.

Playnews also noted that no console price had been announced alongside the release date. On PC, the game costs £8.99 on Steam, down to £5.39 with a 40% discount as of 31 October.
