GTA 6 launches on Thursday 19 November 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and Rockstar has used the final stretch to show a good chunk of the game. A map twice the size of GTA 5’s, missions where money carries more weight, six radio stations and a set of podcasts: the announcements have come thick and fast since late summer, with the odd PC rumour in between. This guide brings together what has been confirmed, with the source for every piece of information. Rumours are flagged as rumours, and several questions, starting with the PC version and the online mode, still have no official answer.
At a glance
GTA 6 launches on Thursday 19 November 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, at £69.99 for the standard edition.
Leonida covers roughly twice the ground of the GTA 5 map, with hurricanes and more than 170 animal species.
No PC version of GTA 6 has been announced, though GamesBeat reports a PC release in the first quarter of 2027.
GTA 6 is out on 19 November 2026, after two delays
The release of GTA 6 is set for Thursday 19 November 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar confirmed it in a post on the studio’s Newswire, apologising for adding yet more time to a wait it knows has been long. The extra months, Rockstar says, are there to finish the game to the level of polish players expect.
This is the third target the game has been given. GTA 6 was first aimed at autumn 2025, then pushed back on 2 May 2025 to 26 May 2026, when Rockstar said it was “very sorry” the release was later than expected. A second slip moved the launch back by another six months, and the date has held ever since.
GTA 6 takes the series back to Vice City, the Miami-inspired city Rockstar first built in 2002 for Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. The last mainline entry, GTA 5, came out in September 2013, which puts thirteen years between the two games.

£69.99 for the standard edition, £89.99 for the Ultimate Edition
Pre-orders have been open since 25 June, from midnight local time. The official GTA 6 page on PlayStation.com lists two editions in the UK: the standard edition at £69.99 and the Ultimate Edition at £89.99. In France, the same editions sell for €79.99 and €99.99.
The two editions of GTA 6 are closer than you might think. Both include the Vintage Vice City Pack, one month of GTA+ and a seven-day pre-load, which opens on 12 November. The Ultimate Edition adds an upgrade that Rockstar, in its pre-order announcement, describes as an exclusive collection of premium vehicles, among other content it has yet to list in full.
Check one thing before you pay: the PlayStation Store listing states that the free month of GTA+ renews automatically. Remember to cancel if the subscription is not for you. The £20 gap pays for the Ultimate upgrade alone, since the game, the pre-order pack and the pre-load are identical in both editions. For anyone mainly playing GTA 6 for the story, the standard edition already covers the essentials.
Jason and Lucia took the stage on Netflix on 27 August
On 27 August, Rockstar released Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look, a long-form showcase that premiered on Netflix at 8pm UK time, before going up on Rockstar’s YouTube channel and the official GTA 6 site at 2am. It puts the two playable leads, Jason and Lucia, in a modernised Vice City, through a mix of cutscenes and gameplay, while keeping the rest of the plot under wraps.
That showcase landed at a tense moment. A few days earlier, fifteen gameplay clips had leaked on social media. Rockstar stayed quiet for almost a week before saying, in a statement quoted by Kotaku, that seeing the footage leak that way had been “heartbreaking” for its teams. The studio also apologised for the time it was taking to finish GTA 6.

Leonida covers twice the ground of the GTA 5 map
The most detailed account of the game world so far is Game Informer’s “Welcome to Leonida” cover story, published on 29 September in issue 382: fourteen pages, twelve new screenshots and interviews at Rockstar conducted by Marcus Stewart, a senior editor born and raised in Florida. Leonida, the fictional state GTA 6 is set in, covers roughly twice the ground of the GTA 5 map, and the studio stresses density as much as size, with regions that each have their own look.
Rockstar has rebuilt the weather in GTA 6 around Florida’s actual climate. The system is more local and more persistent, so it can pour down a few hundred metres from clear skies, several types of cloud genuinely move across the map, and wind gets its own treatment. Game Informer also reports tropical storms and hurricanes that can hit Leonida, something the series has never attempted at this scale.
In GTA 6, more than 170 animal species live across the state, including over 60 types of bird and around thirty land mammals, plus fish and reptiles. Manatees, flamingos, pelicans and alligators share the map with several shark species, whales, rays, turtles and jellyfish, each with its own behaviour. Some of these species have never appeared in a Rockstar game before.

To fill the hours of GTA 6 between heists, the magazine lists base jumping, kayaking, scuba diving, jet skis, airboats, street racing and off-road racing. Quieter pastimes are there too, from pool to gyms and a trip to the zoo.
Money will drive some missions, according to Rockstar North
Rob Nelson, co-studio head at Rockstar North, sat down for a long interview with IGN, conducted by Rachel Weber. The standout passage is about money in GTA 6: “We have made money matter more in this story than I think it has in previous GTA games,” he says. There will be points where you have to head out into the open world and earn money before the next missions open up.
To fill Jason and Lucia’s pockets, Rob Nelson names two routes: stealing cars to sell on, or robbing shops, which appear as a list of targets on the map. A damaged car fetches less, and in the demo shown to IGN, the model a fence asked for carried a tracker that alerted the police whenever Jason drove too slowly. Money also serves the story, since it is meant to get the couple out of the hole they are in.
The missions in GTA 6 open up when the story allows it. In the first mission shown on Netflix, several routes lead out of the tower where Jason and Lucia are trapped, and in a sequence with Raul, the suggested route for losing the police is optional. Rob Nelson is candid about the limits: “It can sometimes be hard to keep the quality as high as you want if you allow for too much freedom or too much choice on missions, but we are really trying wherever we can.”
Part of the content will carry no icon on the map at all. Rob Nelson compares GTA 6 to Red Dead Redemption 2, which plenty of players rushed through before realising what they had missed, and promises that “if you take a bit of time and explore, you will be rewarded – a lot”. The couple also has a relationship system: time spent together at pool, minigolf or on a two-handed bank job shapes how their story ends. A “criminal profile” tracks your excesses too, and repeated gratuitous violence can change how the world reacts and where the story goes.

Radio and podcasts will follow the leads on foot
On 8 October, Rockstar introduced six Leonida Radio stations on its Newswire, each with a pair of hosts. Cocoteo FM, run by El Martillo and La Gata, covers modern Latin music from bachata to reggaeton, with Bad Bunny and Romeo Santos among the first tracks named. Back Country Radio, with MW and Delta Dawne, plays country from the Grassrivers to Port Gellhorn, from Loretta Lynn to David Allan Coe, and sends out Mud Dog Mike, the swamp weatherman, from his airboat.
AfroBank FM, hosted by Burna and Palmsy, covers African music through to amapiano, with Asake, Pat Thomas and Ebo Taylor. The Chamber 106.6 hands decades of metal to DJ Kerry and DJ Tom, from Black Sabbath to Pantera. Flash FM, which Rockstar calls a Vice City institution, plays pop with Robyn and Alex at the controls, from Charli xcx to MGMT, and Dirty South Classics, with Trick and Trina, is given over to Southern rap.
The newest part fits in one line of the post: “Plus, for the first time ever, Grand Theft Auto VI introduces a series of on-demand podcasts for Jason and Lucia to experience beyond Leonida’s terrestrial radio.” Radio and podcasts will be “available to listen to in vehicles and on foot through newly introduced headphones and earbuds connected to their smartphones”, whereas stepping out of a car has always cut the music until now. The podcasts themselves are still unnamed.
A clip from each station is already playable in the music section of the official GTA 6 site. Rockstar promises more to come, including the game’s dynamic music and new singles from Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album, a 34-track record of original songs available to pre-order on vinyl and CD.
The PC version could follow in early 2027, says GamesBeat
No PC version of GTA 6 has been announced. Take-Two, Rockstar’s parent company, keeps getting asked about it all the same: on 17 September, at a shareholder meeting reported by GamesRadar+, chief executive Strauss Zelnick said the group releases its games on platforms with a meaningful audience, adding that “the PC platform is becoming more and more important to our company over time”.
GamesBeat went further on 13 October. In Alexander Lee’s report on the PC version of GTA 6, the outlet says, citing four anonymous industry sources, that Rockstar is planning a PC release in the first quarter of 2027. Rockstar did not respond to a request for comment. For now it remains a credible rumour with no official confirmation.
If it holds, it would break with the studio’s habits. GTA 5 reached consoles in September 2013 and PC in April 2015, and Red Dead Redemption 2 took a year to arrive on PC. GamesBeat gives two reasons for a faster port of GTA 6: a production budget said to exceed $2bn, according to figures Rockstar has never confirmed, and online roleplay, whose FiveM framework runs on PC and whose team, Cfx.re, Rockstar bought in August 2023. PC Gamer’s Andy Chalk points out the catch: a PC date too close to launch could eat into console sales.
Xbox denies a streaming exclusive, Nintendo defers to Take-Two
On 6 October, Tom Warren reported for The Verge that Microsoft had secured exclusive cloud streaming rights to GTA 6 on Xbox Cloud Gaming, which would have given PC players a way in from 19 November. The next day, Xbox chief strategy officer Matthew Ball denied it on his X account: “While the excitement for GTAVI and XBOX is great to see, it has also led to some misreporting. We are looking forward to launching GTAVI on XBOX November 19, though the game will not be streaming exclusively or to PC.”
One question is still hanging. At an internal town hall reported by Insider Gaming, Xbox boss Asha Sharma had said the company had something in place with GTA 6 that “no other platform holder is doing”. Nobody at Microsoft has said what that is, and the denial says nothing about the game reaching Xbox Cloud Gaming after launch.
As for Nintendo, Nintendo of America president Devon Pritchard, asked by Variety about a Switch 2 version of GTA 6, passed the question to the publisher: “That’s going to be a conversation for Take-Two and Rockstar, but nothing to announce on my end at this time.” Strauss Zelnick had said, according to VGC, that Take-Two fully expects to support Switch 2, without naming a single game. The series has only appeared on a Nintendo console five times, from the Game Boy Color ports of the first two games to GTA: The Trilogy on Switch in 2022, by way of GTA Advance in 2004 and Chinatown Wars on DS in 2009.
Australia will require an age check for R18+ online games
Australia’s Age-Restricted Material Codes, published by the eSafety Commissioner, the country’s online safety regulator, came into force on 9 March 2026. The regulator’s page on the framework sets out the rule: users must complete some form of age assurance to access online games rated R18+ by the Australian Classification Board. What counts is the rating of the game, whoever publishes it.
Platforms choose their own method, as long as it is accurate, robust, fair and reliable, and complies with Australian privacy law. The check is run by the service itself, with no central government database. Penalties can reach $49.5 million per breach of a direction to comply, and they target platforms and publishers, while no minor faces any sanction.
MP1st reports that Australian players will have to prove they are adults to access GTA 6. As of 24 September, the game’s official classification entry could not be read on the Australian Classification website, so the rule is confirmed, while its application to GTA 6 remains the press’s reading of it. The online component will also arrive later, and Rockstar has said nothing on that front.
A $399.99 box set and two limited-edition controllers
On 24 September, Rockstar opened pre-orders for The Goodtime State – Vice City Collection, a box set unveiled on Rockstar’s Newswire at £349.99 in the UK and $399.99 in the US. GTA 6 itself has to be bought separately: the box holds a figure of Macca the Gator, mascot of a fictional Leonida TV show, Oakley Frogskins sunglasses, a Leonida Keys bag, a New Era 9FORTY cap, a Chunkee the Manatee shot glass, pins, stickers and a poster of the Leonida map. It ships on 19 November, in limited quantities.
Sony is marking the launch of GTA 6 with two controllers unveiled on 3 September on the PlayStation Blog: the DualSense Grand Theft Auto VI Black Limited Edition and White Limited Edition, with a shimmering finish that borrows the hues of a Vice City sunset and palm trees moulded into the shell. Each costs £74.99 and arrives on 19 November, again in limited quantities. The white model is sold through PlayStation’s own store and participating retailers, the black one only through PlayStation’s store where it operates.
The Miami Heat become Vice City for one night on 18 November
The night before launch, the Miami Heat will host the Milwaukee Bucks at the Kaseya Center under the Vice City name. According to ESPN’s report on the announcement, “A Night in Vice City”, revealed on 2 October by the franchise and Rockstar, will feature a never-worn alternate jersey, a specially designed court and GTA 6 themed entertainment in the arena. The game will be shown nationally across the US on ESPN.
A “Welcome to Vice City” sign already sits on the arena’s roof, and the Heat have played with a “Vice” theme on their special jerseys for several seasons. The franchise calls the night “a first-of-its-kind sports crossover experience”.
What Rockstar has yet to say
A few gaps remain before GTA 6 arrives. The full contents of the Ultimate Edition are still not listed on the PlayStation Store, the PC version is still a rumour, and the Xbox project Asha Sharma mentioned has not been explained. The online mode has no date either: Twitch chief executive Dan Clancy only told Bloomberg during Tokyo Game Show that it would arrive “next year”.
The next chance to learn more comes on 9 November, when Take-Two presents its quarterly results. Hitbox Magazine will update this guide with every official announcement between now and 19 November, sticking to the same rule: confirmed information is presented as such, and a rumour stays a rumour.
Every upcoming release and update date is gathered in our calendar.
